Defence Mechanisms



A quick paper sculpture I made after trying to exlpain graphically the extension and compression of the blades on the shell of the nine-banded armadillo. After making a concertina and taping each end closed, I can increase the curved surface area just by pushing the ends together, which mimics the defence mechanism of the nocturnal insectivore when threatened.
